My Therapy Approach: I believe in approaching all client’s differently depending on their concerns and personalities. Clients are the experts of their own lives, and they understand their presenting circumstances better than anyone else, which is why I like to establish a client-centered environment. By developing trust, openness, and a non-judgmental safe space within the therapeutic relationship, this becomes the catalyst in helping to promote positive, long-term outcomes for clients in helping them achieve their full potential. Integrating positive psychology regardless of a particular therapy modality helps me bring out each client’s pre-existing strengths and assets into each session in becoming more aware and give my clients a deeper understanding of themselves. This helps individuals have a customized, individualistic therapeutic journey in becoming more empowered and receive newfound knowledge of how their thoughts, emotions and behaviors are all connected. I tend to work from a variety of therapeutic techniques, including acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, and the Gottman method when working specifically with families and couples.

Why I Became a Therapist: Ms. Brooke Sprague Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern, CRC, NCC continuously strives to dive deeper into one’s therapeutic journey in understanding how to provide the best possible care. Her compassion, empathy and optimism help to be a driving force in which her clients feel they can truly open up to her and it will be reciprocated in a non- judgmental way. Brooke is patient, curious, and kind which helps her clients be able to feel they have what it takes for them to accomplish their therapeutic goals and see long-term outcomes outside the therapy room.

Ms. Brooke has always had a passion and intuition of wanting to work in the field of mental health. While completing her undergraduate degree, Brooke originally wanted to go to medical school to be a psychiatrist, and during her time of shadowing and volunteering at a psychiatric hospital, she had the opportunity to also be exposed to the world of mental health counselors and knew immediately that was the direction she was meant to go. Brooke graduated with both undergraduate degrees in Health Sciences and Psychology from the University of South Florida.

After completing her undergraduate degree, Brooke worked in Community Mental Health, where she worked at a Baker Act facility and realized very early on that advocacy for those with mental health challenges and underserved populations are evermore pressing. It was during this time Brooke applied for her master’s degree and was accepted to the University of South Florida’s Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling program.

During her graduate time, Brooke became part of the Behavioral Health Workforce and Education and Training program, where she’s always felt a strong connection in wanting to bridge the gap between behavioral health with primary care while still focusing on serving underserved populations in the Tampa Bay area. This program helped Brooke gain knowledge of being able to obtain the skills to work in various settings alongside physicians, and to help clients understand that their mental health symptoms play a vital role in their physical symptoms and what happens in one’s body as well.

During her free time, Brooke loves to stay active such as working out, and engage in outside activities such as rollerblading and biking. Brooke also enjoys traveling, spending time with her friends and family, and is always eager to try new places that open all around Tampa and the St. Pete area!
